People love to save things to memory and put photos, posts and videos on the internet, with machines loving information even more. Computers, smartphones and other devices create around 80 per cent of new data, and our shared love of information is constantly growing. At the same time, video content is playing an increasingly important role, as more than half of all data created in the world is video, according to Filio Force development experts.
About 328 million terabytes of data are created every day in the world. While in 2010 the total amount of data was 2 billion terabytes, in 2020 it will reach 64 billion terabytes. Every year, the amount of data created in the world is growing by at least 22 per cent. The total amount of data ever created in the world is predicted to reach 181 billion terabytes in 2025.
Scientists decided that if there is so much information in the world, it would be great to analyse it all at once. Let’s say at the same time to see how the temperature of the entire Earth has changed over the last 50 years. We didn’t used to be able to do that, but now we have powerful computers and modern research methods. As a result, working with big data, or Big Data, is no longer a problem.
Such data is considered to have five main characteristics:
For example, a customer database in a family restaurant is not big data because there is little data, new data is rarely added, and the data is the same in structure. They are true, but have no particular value, according to the developers of Filio Force it company. But the social network’s user base is what is needed. There are hundreds of millions of users, and their number is constantly growing. Every second posts are written, photos or videos are taken and likes are given. From this base, you can benefit. For example, set up interest-based advertising.
Big data is the key to solving many problems, and on a planetary scale. The time is fast approaching when big data analysis will make it possible to understand how to distribute energy, food or medicine at the level of cities, countries or even the whole planet. In addition, police, based on historical data, can anticipate where new incidents will occur and deploy more patrols. And these are just two examples.
Big data are valuable in and of themselves. Their primary role is to be fuel for research and technology. Physicists need to process big data to study the depths of space, economists to build mathematical models that take into account thousands of factors. Analysing big data helps to better understand nature, decipher the DNA of viruses, etc.
According to Filio Force Canada managers, big data is the foundation for the technologies of the future. We have learnt how to store and process an unthinkable amount of information. But this is only the first step. Now it is necessary to solve global problems of mankind with its help.
